Encyclopedias, handbooks and subject specific dictionaries will help provide useful background information, as well as terms to use when searching the databases. For example:

Finding Articles Online

The articles inside magazines, journals & periodicals are very useful sources of information. Articles are different from books because:

• they are much more up-to-date
• they are shorter (less to read!)
• they concentrate on topics or specific aspects of topics
• there are many articles being published all the time so you have more choice.

The library catalogue, OPAC, does NOT tell you what articles the Library has, only which journals or periodicals, so the easiest way to find articles is to use the online databases.

Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority Singapore (ACRA) - for a searchable directory of business and company names in Singapore.

Business Times Online - offers a range of financial tools and research databases on anything from equities and unit trusts, to currencies and derivatives, up-to-the-minute business news and stock market information on major Asian bourses as well as in-depth analysis by The Business Times editorial.

International Federation of Accountants - a worldwide organization for the accountancy profession. Access the organizations' newsletter, as well as speeches, articles and more.

Ministry of Finance, Singapore - access to current and archived budget statements by the Finance Minister, off-budget measures, figures and charts of government expenditure and tax information. Hyperlinks to related departments (Customs and Excise) and statutory boards (Internal Revenue Authority of Singapore).
